In earlier posts, we looked at the use of the term “renyao” in texts from the 7th through the 10th centuries.  Yue Ke (1183—1243)[1] also used the term in Tingshi 桯史, a collection of historical notes from the Song era. The section Renyao of Suqu recorded two anecdotes about people of unusual physical appearance:
